The position paper presents social marketing initiatives of German Financial Cooperation in the area of SRHR and HIV.

The paper describes in brief German efforts to counteract FGM in general, and specifically with the means of Financial Cooperation.

Since 2003 KfW has been financing a Social Marketing Program in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua which also encompasses a youth strategy in order to respond to various challenges that young people are facing in their sexual life and health. The publication describes the context, objectives, approach, as well as remaining challenges of the program.

The document describes the integration of Uruguay’s HIV/AIDS response into its national health system by using a triangulation approach: Horizontal knowledge transfer from Brazil regarding integrated health care networks is combined with knowledge of local contexts and needs from Uruguay and experience in facilitating, and the monitoring and evaluation of international cooperation processes (GIZ, Germany). The paper demonstrates that the approach of triangulation represents a cost-effective, sustainable and an extremely flexible tool which can be easily adapted and transferred.

Due to several factors, men’s life expectancy in Latin America is 7 years less than women’s. Capacity building workshops aim at the development of locally adapted solutions in the participating countries to decrease the impact of the gender-specific risk factors.

The guidelines for facilitators of the Join-in-Circuit (JiC) Tajikistan contain recommendations for planning and implementing the effective work with young people, The goal is to provide young people with knowledge and skills on the issues of HIV prevention through innovative models. From the PASHA project to the MoEVT’s approach to School Counselling Services and Peer Education – The extensive report of GIZ and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute describes the achievements and lessons learned of the extracurricular approach of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training in Tanzania to address Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and HIV and AIDS in schools which had been implemented from 2003-2012.

The presentation summarizes at a glance the different measures of GIZ which as a comprehensive approach are used to prevent HIV in Ukraine. Among them are e.g. football to promote a healthy lifestyle or the join-in-circuit to foster education and information about HIV.

The manual aims to guide trained peer educators on how to effectively share health related information with their peers. It describes the purpose of an employee wellness programme and the peer educator’s role in this programme, highlights certain characteristics of good peer education, contains training material and interactive methods for each training session, and provides standardised monitoring and evaluation tools to follow up on expected outputs and outcomes.

This report focuses on the gender dimensions of HIV-related stigma and aims to advance a more nuanced understanding and more effective advocacy on how stigma affects women and girls living with HIV differently to men and boys.
