German AIDS Society
DAIG
The German AIDS Society (DAIG) is an association of scientific experts. It promotes scientific exchange and takes part in projects for improving therapy, research and prevention. Its main practical concern is the effective prevention of new infections and ensuring that people with HIV and AIDS can live as long and as well as possible.
A major DAIG focus is non-commercial and university-linked research for maximising the effectiveness of HIV therapies. To help ensure treatment that is up to the latest scientific standards, the German- Austrian recommendations on HIV/AIDS therapy and prophylaxis are revised and updated regularly under the supervision of DAIG. This is a joint effort by all stakeholders, including physicians, researchers and representatives of the health care system as well as people living with HIV/AIDS.
The stated DAIG goal is to reinstate HIV/AIDS at the top of the public agenda. In the policymaking process, for example, it advises decision-makers regarding aspects of HIV/AIDS that are both unique and complex.
International exchange is an increasingly important field of activity for DAIG, which is why the organisation cooperates with partners in Europe and the USA, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.
