BZgA
The Federal Agency for Health Education (BZgA) is a specialist area of operations within the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG). It has been conducting national public health information campaigns since 1967.
Practicing preventive medicine and maintaining the good health of the population are the two main objectives of the work of the BZgA. Stress is on promoting each individual’s willingness to behave responsibly in regard to his or her own health and to use the health system purposefully and effectively.
The priority areas for BZgA work are:
- AIDS prevention
- Addiction prevention
- Sexual education/information and family planning
- Child and youth health
- Blood and organ donation
- Nutrition
- Exercise and stress management
The BZgA has since 1987 been conducting the national public information campaign “Don’t give AIDS a chance”, Germany’s largest, most comprehensive campaign for preventive health care. The campaign serves as a model for an effective, nationwide prevention strategy with broad public impact.
Further information about BZgA activity areas is to be found at www.bzga.de.
